TMR Frugal Living Tip #29

Today's thrifty tip is eat less meat. I love meat, but it's getting very expensive these days. As Americans, we do eat more than we need in a serving. I have been cutting chicken breasts in half, and I get more meals from it. Beans are an excellent source of protein and fiber, and it's much cheaper. The other great thing is they are versatile. I can use them in soups, serve over brown rice, use them in a stir fry, wrap them up in a tortilla, and more! Eggs are also full of protein, but the whites are better than the yolk. I have made some great meals with eggs. When you do buy meat, try to get the leaner cuts. They have less fat plus taste better.

Great tip, but a hard one to convince my hubby to embrace! He's like that guy on the Wendy's commercial - a "meatatarian"!

My husband is a huge meat eater. Matter of fact getting him to eat other things, is like pulling teeth. Not only is it unhealthy, but extremely expensive, as you said. So at least once a week, we have meatless meals. My husband isnt crazy about it, but he knows it is for the best. I too, like you said, cut chicken breasts in half, they cook faster that way too. I try to buy the larger packages of meat, they are usually less expensive. Then I split them all up into serving sizes, before freezing. I dont make anymore than two servings of meat, per person, that way you can have a second serving but not eat it all up at one time.

This is why I am out of states since the meat prices gone up and out of reach, I paid once the air fare and came in India, amazing here people hate to eat meat and meat is not that clean or healthy slaughtering over here but with little efforts you eventually find a way to get nice, fresh and healthy meat from cut to pack meat shops by Muslim meat distributors for their own sake and i found it tender and better than anywhere in the world.....if the America is one third of whole world meat resources.

nice to come over this post and feel better to say this.

I don't think I could ever replace meat with beans!
