TMR Frugal Living Tip #60
Today's thrifty tip is think about leveling your utility bills. It makes budgeting easier for me since I have an average of what my bill will be from month to month. I have to run our A/C often during the summer which spikes our electric bill. It was harder for us to come up with $200-250 for one month during the summer. Instead we pay an average of $100 per month. We use less electricity in the winter months since we our heater runs on natural gas. During the summer months my bill can go up to $110-120, and during the winter as cheap as $80. I budget $100 per month so in the months when it's cheaper, I have extra for the more expensive summer months. I also have my natural gas bill leveled. I average $50 a month on that bill. I just level my water bill myself since they don't offer that service. I average $40 per month on the water and it includes trash service. It just makes my life easier, and bill paying more predictable.

Girl, don't ever move to TX. Our bills are upwards of $300 every single month. Last month it was $550. This month: $370, and we were even out of town for 10 days. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS on your utility bill!
I am in Texas and I have huge airconditioning electrc bills, it's a good idea to level your bills all year in one way but hard to do during the winter months when the bill is usually very low.
Great budget. I remember my mom had a budget book to pay her bills monthly and when there was five paydays in a month she would have a extra week of money to do what she wanted.

We do a lot of cooking in the oven even in the summer. Last month we purchased a halogen oven. It is the best thing since sliced bread. The only thing we have tried baking in it that didn't turn out better than in the big oven is pizza. We will have to use the regular oven for that. Anyway, we are not only saving money, the halogen oven doesn't heat up the kitchen like the big oven does.
